We know what you're thinking: Wait a minute, I missed the Emmys? In fact, you didn't: There was a ceremony on Saturday, but it covered only the "Creative Arts" category of the Primetime Emmys, leading up to the big live ceremony (hosted by Jane Lynch) on Sept. 18. Even though it wasn't the main event, the Primetime Creative Arts Emmys honored the TV work of some seriously big stars -- including Justin Timberlake, Gwyneth Paltrow and Lady Gaga.
Friends with Benefits star Timberlake took home not one, but two awards for his appearances on Saturday Night Live. In addition to beating out fellow SNL host Zach Galifianakis for best comedy guest actor -- he also beat out himself in the category of best original music and lyrics, which nominated two of Timberlake's satirical Saturday Night Live songs. (The winning song was his sung-through monologue about how he didn't want to sing on the show, which you can watch here.) Timberlake's SNL appearances are so popular that he'd actually won both awards before: outstanding guest actor for hosting in 2009, and original music and lyrics in 2007 (for the "D*** in a Box" song).
Paltrow, on the other hand, is celebrating her very first Emmy win. Thanks perhaps to her winning cover of Cee-lo's "Forget You," Paltrow won the best comedy guest actress award over two other recurring Glee stars (Kristin Chenoweth and Dot Marie Jones), not to mention the very funny Elizabeth Banks (30 Rock), Tina Fey (SNL) and Cloris Leachman (Raising Hope).
Lady Gaga's Monster Ball Tour: At Madison Square Garden special was nominated for five awards, but took home just one (for best picture editing, which Gaga herself probably had little to do with).
The evening's big reality TV winner was Deadliest Catch, which took home four awards, including best reality series (beating out everyone's favorite guilty pleasure Hoarders). Survivor, however, walked away with best reality host, as Jeff Probst beat out American Idol's Ryan Seacrest and Dancing With the Stars' Tom Bergeron.
In the dramatic acting categories, Grey's Anatomy and Harry's Law got their turn to shine. Loretta Divine scored for her recurring role as Adele Webber on Grey's, over other fan favorites like True Blood's Alfre Woodard. The best drama guest actor award was nabbed by former ER actor Paul McCrane for his work on Harry's Law.
If you're dying to know who won the hairstyling and prosthetic makeup Emmys, the complete list is here. The Creative Arts Emmys will air on ReelzChannel on Sept. 17, the night before the 63rd Annual Primetime Emmys air on FOX.
