Paula Abdul's Talk Show Double-Duty

Tending to promotional duties, Paula Abdul made multiple television appearances in New York City on Tuesday (September 20).

The 49-year-old kicked off her press circuit with a morning visit to the "Today" show, during which she chatted about her new role on "X Factor" and exactly why she's decided to team-up with Simon Cowell once more.

"We're like an old married couple - without the sex...by choice," Paula told the host of her and Simon's sometimes tumultuous relationship.

She continued, ?I mean, it took 10 years to understand each other. (But Simon?s) been my best teacher. He?s taught me. I?ve always known I?m a strong woman, but he really taught me some inner strength. He always provoked me and challenged me, and the more I stood up for myself and stood up to him, the more he embraced me.?

As for what makes "X Factor" different from her previous singing competition, Abdul says this show allows younger contestants - and a bigger prize, as she explained, ?The 12-year-olds are fiercely competitive. I mean, just as passionate (as older contestants) and their work ethic is, like, unparalleled. There?s no age limit going upwards, so it?s nice. It gives people a second or third chance to come back and compete," adding, "The prize is $5 million, and they get a Pepsi campaign in the Super Bowl as well."

After a midday break in the action, Paula closed out her busy schedule with a nighttime visit to the Ed Sullivan Theatre, as she once again did her best to explain the difference between "X Factor" and "American Idol" on the :Late Show with David Letterman".
