Viewers with short attention spans must be loving The X Factor, which continues to zip along at a speedy clip. After performing in groups and then individually, the top 32 contestants were named during Thursday night's show, closing out Week 3. If this were American Idol, we'd still be early in the initial try-out phase. The top 32 X Factor contestants will now move on to the mentoring phase in the judges' homes. Paula Abdul will be guiding the groups; L.A. Reid will advise the boys; Nicole Scherzinger will help the contestants aged 30+; and Simon Cowell will steer the girls.
"We're not a team anymore," said Cowell. "We now work with our contestants and if they win, you win, and if they lose, you lose. Nobody wants to lose.
So who made the cut? Click here to see which contestants advanced to the mentoring phase. Rachel Crow, the 13-year-old standout from the first episode, wowed the judges and audience once again. And 42-year-old single mom Stacy Francis got yet another standing ovation.
Francis' solo performance of "Summertime" was especially compelling, since it followed her revelation that her father had just died. "For the rest of my life I will have to deal with missing my father’s funeral," she said, and launched into a soulful version of the Ella Fitzgerald standard that left Abdul in tears. "That's real pain," Reid commented after her performance.
Sadly, iVillage's own Liliana Rose didn't make the cut, despite some rave reactions from the judges last week. "It was amazing being in front of that many people, thousands of people," she told iVillage's Pat Sandora. "It was definitely the biggest stage I've ever been on. And the reception was great!"
This certainly isn't the end of the road for the talented Rose. If you'd like to hear more of her singing, you're just a few keystrokes away. "A lot of my stuff is on YouTube," she says. "Just search Liliana Rose, and you'll find my stuff!"
